Description

A memorable cruise on a traditional Greek caique, a wooden motorboat with a unique design of Turkish origin, dating back to the early 1900s. Initially used only by fishermen or coastal traders, over time and with the decline of certain activities like sponge fishing, they have transformed into comfortable cruise boats. A characteristic feature of a caique is its rounded stern, designed to better handle the waves of the majestic Aegean Sea on windy days.

The caique we offer was completely renovated in the winter of 2023. Despite its large capacity, the captain has chosen to fill it to half capacity to ensure a wonderful excursion in total relaxation and comfort, allowing for sunbathing, swimming, and refreshing dips in the crystal-clear waters of our sea. The islands to be visited are Plati, Kalymnos, and Pserimos.

What to Expect

A beautiful day dedicated to the sea, sunbathing, and relaxation. A great opportunity to visit the islands near Kos in their natural beauty.

Itinerary

Departure at 9:30 AM from the port of Kos (arrive about half an hour early to secure the best spots, though we will select and reserve them for you) and head towards the island of Plati. This small island is uninhabited but has a romantic history about Antonella, an Italian woman, and Micali, a Greek man, who somehow managed to obtain permission to build a house, the only one on the wild island. Their love lasted for fifteen years, and after it ended, only the beautiful abandoned house with a dreamlike view remained. The boat anchors in the sea near the island’s coast, allowing you to swim and bathe. The waters here are stunning, making you feel as if you’re in the Caribbean rather than Greece. This stop lasts about fifty minutes. Back on the boat, lunch is served: a skewer (souvlaki in Greek), a mixed salad with tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, cabbage, and cucumber, tzatziki sauce, and bread.

After lunch, we set off towards the island of Kalymnos to reach the area called Vathi. During the navigation, the captain will take you to a spot where, if lucky, you can see wild dolphins. Sometimes, you may also encounter sea turtles, which usually come to nest on the island of Kos in winter. The navigation time is about half an hour. This part of the island has a very particular charm, a cove reminiscent of a northern European fjord with natural pools among high cliffs and a sea with incredible colors. The boat docks at the tiny port, where you can visit the village with its shops selling natural sponges, as Kalymnos is home to the most famous and skilled sponge fishermen in the Mediterranean, as well as bags of natural aromatic herbs and excellent honey produced locally.

For those who prefer swimming or showing off with a spectacular dive, despite being in the port, the cove has clean and clear waters. The cliffs, like an affectionate embrace surrounding the small bay, offer spots for fun diving. Be careful if you sit on the rock steps before entering the sea, as they are often covered with stinging marine plants that could ruin your day. Don’t miss trying a fresh and healthy orange or lemon juice, fruits that Kalymnos’ land abundantly provides and are considered among the best in the Dodecanese. This stop will also last about an hour.

Last but not least due to navigation reasons, the island of Pserimos, a small gem in the middle of the sea. Our boat will dock at the small port, and you will be free to visit the tiny village, which in winter is inhabited by about fifty people. You will find a few souvenir shops and two beautiful taverns right on the bay where you can have coffee or something refreshing with your feet in the sand. You can also swim, as the water is very clean and the seabed slopes gently. The beach of Pserimos is of soft golden sand, inviting you to a moment of leisure. The estimated return time is 5:00 PM.

Onboard the caique, there is a well-stocked bar with quick snacks, colorful cocktails, alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The entire crew will be at your complete disposal for any needs you may have.

This tour can be taken every day, depending on seat availability.
