How to get to Kos

Welcome to the beautiful island of Kos! Even though we might be a bit biased, trust us, if you choose to spend your holidays in Greece here, experiencing the island with the same passion as we do, you’ll discover just how fascinating and enchanting it is.

Maybe it’s because of its volcanic origins or the energies released by the earth, as some scholars suggest, that you form such a strong bond with this place. The first time we arrived in Kos, we couldn’t bring ourselves to leave.

Kos isn’t very large, but it continues to surprise us every time with new places to discover, curiosities, and different emotions, like a breathtaking sunset or an encounter with a sweet wild kitten.

It’s an island that offers everything: modernity and ancient traditions still alive, a sea that changes appearance from one coast to another, entertainment, pure relaxation, privacy, or lively animation. It’s perfect for all ages and every need.

Its coast stretches for 120 kilometers with beaches of fine sand or mixed with pebbles, all bathed by the magnificent Aegean Sea, famous for its deep blue color.

The mountainous area is ideal for trekking enthusiasts, with breathtaking views and authentic villages where you can breathe the true Greek atmosphere. There are many beaches, some uncrowded even in high season if you know where to look.

Getting to Kos is very easy thanks to low-cost flights from numerous Italian and European cities. Reaching the island by sea is also convenient. Here are some options:

Flight: During the summer, starting from April, there are several flights from various Italian and European airports. The flight takes about two and a half hours. You can find the most convenient route on: Skyscanner.

In low season or to save money, you can fly to Athens and then take a domestic flight: Sky Express, Aegean Airlines.

Ferry: Kos is connected to many islands and the port of Piraeus. From Kos, you can also reach Turkey (Bodrum and Datça are about 5 nautical miles away) with ferries that depart daily and take about 45 minutes.

From Piraeus, the journey takes about 13 hours with Blue Star Ferries: Blue Star Ferries.

Also from Rhodes and Santorini, Blue Star Ferries offers night services and routes to Syros, Amorgos, Astypalea, Karpathos, Kastellorizo, and Samos. With the Dodekanisos catamarans, you can reach almost every day Patmos, Lipsi, Leros, Kalymnos, Samos, Ikaria, Fourni, Agathonissi, Nisyros, Tilos, Chalki, Symi, and of course Rhodes: Dodekanisos Seaways.

In short, you can plan your holiday in Kos by combining it with other islands for a wonderful itinerant trip.
