The island of Kos, located in the Dodecanese Archipelago just five nautical miles from Turkey, serves as a bridge to the East. This proximity has profoundly influenced the local culture, visible in the cuisine, traditions, and even in the language.
Kos is the place we have chosen to live. The island offers every imaginable comfort: numerous beaches stretching for 120 kilometers, hilly and mountainous areas ideal for hikes with breathtaking views, a wide range of taverns offering different cuisines, shops, bars, and all necessary amenities. Despite being very touristy, there is space for everyone.
Like all the islands of the Dodecanese, Kos offers a great variety of beaches despite its relatively small size. Almost the entire perimeter is suitable for swimming, allowing visitors to spread out without crowding. The most famous and frequented beaches are crowded during the summer, but finding tranquility is not difficult.
Here are some of the options you will have during your vacation in Kos:
Northeast of Kos: Psalidi
Ammos Beach This beach is located just after the large resorts in the northeastern part of Kos. It is one of the newest beaches, with a young and modern atmosphere. Characterized by light sand mixed with pebbles, the sea is crystal clear and becomes deep quickly. It offers sunbeds, umbrellas, gazebos, and a beach bar that serves modern Greek dishes, quick snacks, and drinks, including exotic cocktails. In the evening, especially in summer, it transforms into an open-air disco with local and international DJs. Don’t miss the full moon parties during the nights of the full moon.
Agios Fokas Beach Located after Ammos Beach, it is one of the most beautiful and tranquil beaches, immersed in a natural setting with a succulent garden. The beach consists of small pebbles and sand, with shallow water for the first five meters. The waters are clear and often calm. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for free with the purchase of a drink. The beach bar offers a variety of dishes such as succulent burgers, mixed cold cuts with local cheeses, and classic Greek souvlaki. Facing the Turkish coast, you will have the opportunity to see dolphins swimming near the shore.
Therma Beach One of the main attractions of Kos, Therma is a free open-air spa. Located at the far north of the island, the beach is characterized by pebbles and a natural pool fed by thermal waters. These waters, rich in minerals, are beneficial for the skin and respiratory system. Alternating hot baths with dips in cold water is therapeutic for blood circulation. There is no equipment available, but you can have beauty treatments for a fee. The road to reach it is difficult, so it is advisable to park at the top and walk down.
Northwest: Lambi and Tigaki
Tarzan Beach A lively and fun beach, famous for its festive atmosphere. Here you will find sunbeds and umbrellas, but also loud music and afternoon shows with Ivraim, the local “Tarzan.” It is a gay-friendly beach, much appreciated by Dutch families. The restaurant offers fresh fish and light dishes. On Monday evening, the Watermelon Party is organized with fireworks.
Nisi Beach An elegant and modern beach with comfortable sunbeds and straw umbrellas. Here you can recharge your phone and leave personal items in safety boxes. The sand is mixed with pebbles, with a calm and clean sea. The beach bar serves dishes of Greek and intercontinental cuisine.
